When Your Refund Should Come
The IRS no longer has a refund schedule. Instead they give the following guidelines.
“9 out of 10 refunds can be expected within 21 days once the return has been processed [or can be processed].”
This slow down in IRS service is a result of the increased fraud filters put in place to combat the higher levels of fraud and identity theft.
If your refund is late, in most cases it will show up the next week.
If your refund is late, you can click on this Where is My Refund Link to take you to the page to check on the status of your refund.
State of Indiana Refund Schedule
The State doesn't have a fixed schedule but they tell us
- If you file electronically, you should normally receive your refund in 10 to 14 days*.
- If you send your return in the mail, it may take up to 12 weeks. But usually it is 4 to 8 weeks* depending on how far they get behind in processing returns.
- Amended returns they tell us are not processed until they catch up on current returns well after April 15th.
*Please be aware that delays on the state's part are possible. So don't bank on an exact date.
